Silk on handloom cotton, hand embroidered bedspread of couch cover in Northern Indian Phulkari style, estimated 1940. The Phulkari embroidery technique is applied from the ‘wrong’ side of the woven fabric, and follows the weave of the fabric and a beautiful, consistent effect is created by changing the direction of the stitches. The patterns are usually geometric. Condition: excellent.
